An Illuminating Visit to Kingston Expo 15
Recently I have decided to join forces with a group called Business Clan. I know Delia Porter via my extended family and it occurred to me that she might be able to help get Sam Devereaux Coaching further in my local borough of Kingston-Upon-Thames. One of the first suggestions that she made was to attend Kingston Expo 15. The last expo I remember hearing tell of was Expo '86 in Toronto, attended by my grandparents while on holiday! So Delia's suggestion would represent a relative leap into the dark on my part.
The Expo is, as I understand it, now in it's 3rd year and is held within the spacious confines of Kingston Business school on the campus of the famous University. As an outsider to this sort of event I was extremely impressed. The Expo featured appearances by the Mayor and the newly elected James Berry MP. There was a plethora of different businesses exhibiting and I was struck by the friendly atmosphere that pervaded through the rooms. This was quite a contrast to the wedding fairs I have attended often as part of The Master Blues Brothers. There you find yourself confronted by legions of the general public who have paid to be at the event but are determined not to be 'sold to' by any of the exhibitors!
My visit concluded with an illuminating talk courtesy of Kate Miranda of Time & Leisure Media Group. Kate spoke to us about how the local press can benefit a small business and the critical difference between marketing and PR. I left after four hours of real insight into what a positive business community Kingston is and I look forward to making my own contribution to it's vibrant landscape more and more and 2015 progresses.
